How do I increase the maximum file size of an UNICODE pst file? The default size is 20 GB but as far as I know there must be a registry value that allows to increase the maximum up to approximately 4TB?

Yup, you can do this via the registry or via Group Policies. Note that this does not apply to pst-files created in Outlook 97-2002 (ANSI formatted pst-files).

Via the Registry
You need to go to the following location in the registry;
Outlook 2003: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\PST
Outlook 2007: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\PST

Here you must create and set 2 new DWORD values (note that these values are case sensitive);

    * WarnLargeFileSize
      Don’t set this higher than 4090445042 (decimal) or f3cf3cf2 (hexadecimal)
    * MaxLargeFileSize
      Don’t set this higher than 4294967295 (decimal) or ffffffff (hexadecimal)

The first value is how many MB a user can write to a pst-file. The second value is how many MB the system can write to a pst-file. This difference has to be at least 5% since there is more written to a pst-file than just user data.

Make sure the you do not space in between the db/.Apple and use capital letters where they are in the code and it will work

Reboot

Hold apple + s down after you hear the chimes.

When you get text prompt enter in the terminal commands which create a new admin account (hit return after each line)

mount -uw /
rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
shutdown -h now

When you reboot your computer you should have a new admin account. Most times you will have to set up your user again. After you login you can delete the old admin account.

I cam accross a problem today in windows when i tried to delete a folder off my desktop. I right clicked and slected delete and got the error that the file was not present. If your anything like me have a file you cannot delete, especially on the desktop…….would drive you insane and you would have to fix it.

I looked around the net for a couple of hours. There some responses with:-

rename the folder and then delete it

mane a new folder in the same folder as the file reporting the problem and call it the same name. when requested to overwrite, let it overwrite and then delete it.

etc. etc. etc.

Nothing i tried worked…..

Then i came across a response that told me to try and delete it using an elevated command prompt. i tried this and it still didn’t work. Eventially i found a comment about adding the /so command to the remove directory command and it should work.

It did work, and that made me very happy..

Here are the instructions on how to do it:

On vista “click on start” type “cmd” and you will see a black item appear on the top left hand side of the menu with the letters “cmd” beside it. Right click on this and select “rin as administrator”

For XP click on “start” and then in the run box on the bottom right of the menu type cmd” and then press enter..

Yu should now see a black box on the screen something like the image below.

Type the following after the c:users\Users Name

rd [directory] /so

The file should now delete for you.

Hope this helps.

In my blog for the next few entries I am going to talk about some of my favourite add-ins for Mozilla Firefox. The add-on for today is Ziink Surfer.

One of my friends told me about Ziink Surfer so I went and checked it out. It is now amongst my must have Firefox Add-ons.

Ziink Surfer has some various settings and features but the main one I like is “Auto Page”. You know when you are looking through a website and there is 15 pages, you have to click next, next next each time you want to view the next page. Not any more with Ziink Surfer, when you scroll to the bottom of a page it automatically loads the next page underneath. i.e. you end up with one big long page with all the pages on the next button. e.g. you have a site and there are 6 pages, each time you get to the bottom of a page, the next page automatically appears below until all of the 6 pages are displayed on the one.

There are more features than this to Ziink Surfer as you can see below.

You can find the Ziink Surfer plugin here

Looking around at various digital download software I arrived at the conclusion they were either expensive, hard to use, had ongoing fees or all of the above.

The result I wanted had to have the following attributes:

Be easy to set up and use.

Be able to use the PayPal payment gateway.

Be able to be used with existing shopping carts.

Be able to be used without a shopping cart. i.e. by using simple “Buy Now” buttons on a webpage.

Had to be cheap or preferably free.

Had to be reasonably secure.

I looked for days without finding a satisfactory solution.

Finally I found a “FREE” PHP script that does the job. It is safe, secure, easy to use and allows digital downloads from existing shopping carts (such as CoffeeCup Shopping Cart Creator) or by using buttons on your webpage.

The download is provided as an automatic attachment to an email as well as an encrypted download link for which you can set an automatic time limit.

If you are interested in receiving a copy of this script I am more than happy to provide it to you. Use the “Live Support” buttons around my website to contact me or in the event that our Live Support is offline leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

HOW DO I ANALYSE WEBSITE STATISTICS?

Analyzing your web traffic statistics can be an invaluable tool for a number of different reasons. But before you can make full use of this tool, you need to understand how to interpret the data.

Most web hosting companies will provide you with basic web traffic information that you then have to interpret and make pertinent use of. However, the data you receive from your host company can be overwhelming if you don’t understand how to apply it to your particular business and website. Let’s start by examining the most basic data-the average visitors to your site on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.

These figures are the most accurate measure of your website’s activity. It would appear on the surface that the more traffic you see recorded, the better you can assume your website is doing, but this is an inaccurate perception. You must also look at the behaviour of your visitors once they come to your website to accurately gauge the effectiveness of your site.

There is often a great misconception about what is commonly known as “hits” and what is really effective, quality traffic to your site. Hits simply means the number of information requests received by the server. If you think about the fact that a hit can simply equate to the number of graphics per page, you will get an idea of how overblown the concept of hits can be. For example, if your home page has 15 graphics on it, the server records this as 15 hits, when in reality we are talking about a single visitor checking out a single page on your site. As you can see, hits are not useful in analyzing your website traffic.

The more visitors that come to your website, the more accurate your interpretation will become. The greater the traffic is to your website, the more precise your analysis will be of overall trends in visitor behaviour. The smaller the number of visitors, the more a few anomalous visitors can distort the analysis.

The aim is to use the web traffic statistics to figure out how well or how poorly your site is working for your visitors. One way to determine this is to find out how long on average your visitors spend on your site. If the time spent is relatively brief, it usually indicates an underlying problem. Then the challenge is to figure out what that problem is.

It could be that your keywords are directing the wrong type of visitors to your website, or that your graphics are confusing or intimidating, causing the visitor to exit rapidly. Use the knowledge of how much time visitors are spending on your site to pinpoint specific problems, and after you fix those problems, continue to use time spent as a gauge of how effective your fix has been.

Additionally, web traffic stats can help you determine effective and ineffective areas of your website. If you have a page that you believe is important, but visitors are exiting it rapidly, that page needs attention. You could, for example, consider improving the link to this page by making the link more noticeable and enticing, or you could improve the look of the page or the ease that your visitors can access the necessary information on that page.

If, on the other hand, you notice that visitors are spending a lot of time on pages that you think are less important, you might consider moving some of your sales copy and marketing focus to that particular page.

As you can see, these statistics will reveal vital information about the effectiveness of individual pages, and visitor habits and motivation. This is essential information to any successful Internet marketing campaign.

Your website undoubtedly has exit pages, such as a final order or contact form. This is a page you can expect your visitor to exit rapidly. However, not every visitor to your site is going to find exactly what he or she is looking for, so statistics may show you a number of different exit pages. This is normal unless you notice an exit trend on a particular page that is not intended as an exit page. In the case that a significant percentage of visitors are exiting your website on a page not designed for that purpose, you must closely examine that particular page to discern what the problem is. Once you pinpoint potential weaknesses on that page, minor modifications in content or graphic may have a significant impact on the keeping visitors moving through your site instead of exiting at the wrong page.

After you have analyzed your visitor statistics, it’s time to turn to your keywords and phrases. Notice if particular keywords are directing a specific type of visitor to your site. The more targeted the visitor-meaning that they find what they are looking for on your site, and even better, fill out your contact form or make a purchase-the more valuable that keyword is.

However, if you find a large number of visitors are being directed-or should I say misdirected-to your site by a particular keyword or phrase, that keyword demands adjustment. Keywords are vital to bringing quality visitors to your site who are ready to do business with you. Close analysis of the keywords your visitors are using to find your site will give you a vital understanding of your visitor’s needs and motivations.

Finally, if you notice that users are finding your website by typing in your company name, break open the champagne! It means you have achieved a significant level of brand recognition, and this is a sure sign of burgeoning success
